ASTM F 2273-03 and F 2274-03
(American Society of Testing Materials, 1995)

Mr. Tudor was Vice Chairman of the Working Group of ASTM (safety) standards writing group that produced two bicycle fork standards. The fork is the part of the bicyle to which the front wheel attaches. These tests assure the safety of the front part (fork) of the bicycle so that the manufacturer knows the strength needed to design, build and mass produce the fork. The consumer can then be assured that the bicycle fork complies with standards promulgated by the government. Note that the failure of the fork on a bicycle typically causes the rider to be thrown forward -- an undesirable failure mode.

Below are typical test configurations. The illustration is a typical impact test set-up.
