Andrew H. Tudor holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Master of Science in Mechanics and Materials Engineering from the University of Illinois. He has also taken mechanical engineering courses towards a Ph.D., and is a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois.
For more than three decades, Mr. Tudor has been engaged in the following engineering areas: Mechanical Analysis and Design, Performance Testing, Manufacturing and Safety.
He worked for Natural Gas Pipeline Company, a utility, where he tested and analyzed high pressure gas piping systems and the connected engines and compressors used for pumping natural gas from the Gulf states to the Chicago market.
Mr. Tudor also worked for a vibration instrument manufacturer diagnosing machinery problems, and an automobile research center where he tested and analyzed automotive (both automobile and truck) components.
As Manager of Research and Development at Schwinn Bicycle Company, he implemented computers in engineering for computer-aided design, analysis and manufacturing, and validated computer models in the laboratory for consumer and structural integrity. As a direct result of his responsibility for new product development, he utilized military aircraft materials and analysis, and invented the technology to produce the lightest bicycle frame in the world. He was designing and testing bicycle headgear, or helmets, in the 1980s before helmets were popular and the benefits of wearing them fully realized and appreciated by the consumer.
As a Senior and Principal Consulting Engineer at Triodyne, he provided the technical expertise necessary to analyze complex mechanical systems from an analytical, as well as an experimental viewpoint. He provided the theoretical analysis, and solved the vibration problem for the largest case Triodyne experienced. During this period, he was also developing and publishing his safety research.
His research in the area of safety has been published by such organizations as The American Society of Mechanical Engineers, The National Safety Council and The Society of Manufacturing Engineers. Mr. Tudor also complements his research by his active participation on such committees as The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (Safety Engineering and Risk Analysis Division), The American Society for Testing Materials (Sports Equipment) and the American Society of Safety Engineers (Plant and Construction Operations). For instance, his participation on code committees (ASTM) has produced safety standards that guarantee a minimum level of safety for bicycle consumer products. Most recently, he was Vice Chairman of the working group that produced ASTM F2273 and F2274 relating to bicycles and suspension systems.
Mr. Tudor is Past President of the Northeast Illinois Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers which promulgates education, training and the exchange of safety amongst over 350 safety professionals in and around the Chicago area. They are responsible for the "Chicagoland Safety Conference" which is typically a four-day seminar, conference and exhibition for safety professionals covering topics ranging from general industry to constuction safety.
Mr. Tudor has received the prestigious SPY Award (Safety Professional of the Year 2003) from his peers in the American Society of Safety Engineers for his contributions to the field of mechanical safety. The Awards Committee evaluated and reviewed his work, and the Executive Board approved their selection of him as the Northeast Illinois American Society of Safety Engineers Safety Professional of the Year.
Mr. Tudor has lectured to diverse groups such as at the university level ("Design Safety" and "Accident Investigation"), at the professional society level (The American Society of Mechanical Engineers on "Machine Safety") and at the consumer level to bicyclists ("Bicycle Safety").
Andrew H. Tudor is the President of Meridian One, Inc. In this
position, he provides technical services to industry,
insurance companies, the legal profession and the community. He also serves as an expert witness in the aforementioned areas.
